7 Types of Men to Experience in Life

By YasmeenAli

Have you ever thought about the types of men you’ve been with? Which category do they lie in? Men are very basic so, categories are the most appropriate way to separate one type from another. It helps to weed out the bad batch from the good, although, not all are bad experiences. We should learn from our mistakes and appreciate the knowledge gained from our past.

The Bad Boy

Every girl’s irresistible fantasy, even if it is only for a short period of time. He smokes, drinks, parties and cannot keep his hands off of you. You hate him for his selfishness but you love him for the spare moments where his one word can make you melt. You love him not because he’s bad (not completely, anyway), but because at the end of the day, you think you can fix them. You take his issues and internalize them to make them your own. He is someone you will run into several years down the line to find he has become some sort of missionary saint helping needy children in Africa. Why, oh, why couldn’t he have been that person when you were helplessly in love with him? Because then you wouldn’t have been in love with him.

The Heartbreaker

You know that guy you thought was perfect? That one man with the most charming smile, who says all the right things, takes you to meet his parents, and then stands you up on your anniversary date. He is someone you love more than he loves you. You know he’s only using you but you still cannot resist. He will break your heart to pieces when you’re standing there clueless as to why he’s giving you the” it’s not you, it’s me” speech. He will break not only your heart but that ounce of hope in good men. He will be your reality check. You need him. Enjoy the oblivion while it lasts.

The Forbidden Lover

Oh, the secret romance that only always appears in the movies and to a very selective group of real people. This love is young, intense, angst-ridden and most importantly mutual. This romance usually occurs if he is someone people (like your father) do not approve of. It is reflective the affairs of Romeo and Juliet, except without the suicides. In your young lustful minds, you believe you cannot be without each other. There will be many longing stares and passionate kisses—perhaps even a few passionate nights. In the end you will be tragically separated. He might go to war and die…or be forced to marry someone else by his controlling mother.

The Foreigner

That sexy accent, those dark mysterious eyes, that luring smile—how can you resist him? And you have no idea why he’s remotely interested in a plain Jane like you. This story can take you anywhere in the world. Maybe you both are new to a foreign country. Or perhaps, he’s the new Italian neighbor in your rundown apartment building trying to build his photography portfolio. Maybe you met on a train in India—he’s a U.K. University student and you’re a drifter. You’ll have other-worldly adventures exploring an unknown city and each other. This is a story of fate. All hopes lie on the serendipitous events to unfold. You’ll probably exchange numbers or information and never see each other again till late in life…when both of you are happily married to someone else.

The One-Night Stander

This is probably the most realistic short-term affair listed. You’re out one night with a load of friends, a club or rave or bar. He’s just a cute guy who’s in the right place at the right time, who miraculously says all the right things (at least when you’ve had one too many). He could be a member of the large group you came with or a stranger in the crowd. You end up running around the empty streets with him, giggling and groping each other, and then go back to his place. He is someone who could turn into someone special or just that one-night stand (the latter being more probable). Have fun, regardless!

The Office Flirt

Also another more plausible scenario. Most of the time, he is just a cute douche-bag you enjoy flirting with in the cubicle across from your luxurious mahogany desk (because hard working women deserve it). You give him a wink; he stares at your ass as you walk away. You might or might not get it on at a New Year’s Eve office party. He might or might not have a girlfriend—you don’t know because you don’t ask. Either way, you move on to a better job and concentrate on your work. He was never a very good idea, but an experience you’ll never forget.

The Best Friend

He is just that—your very best friend. You go to the movies with him, sing karaoke, complain about your love life and cry on his shoulder when your heart is broken. He’s real with you, always brutally honest. He’s not perfect but sweet and loves spending time with you, just talking. He is never someone you saw romantically until you two have some sort of falling out or you’re really drunk. But one thing is for sure, he’s been in love with you since the moment he saw you. He could be there for life. He could be the guy, the tragically real man you have been looking for this whole time. Don’t be a blind bat and pass up the opportunity!

What a cute and original hub. It's kinda too bad that I didn't get to experience the Foreigner before I settled down with the Bad Boy :)

Thank you jjackson786 and dexter! This was just something I was playfully discussing with a friend and somehow I came up with a list. :-)

Awesome, thanks! Yeah, we've all run across one or the other. But there are still a few types of men left. I'll be making a second part soon. Stay tuned! :-)

Hi, Nell Rose!

Yeah, I think those two are my favorites as well. But my number one has to be the bad boy. I'm still young so I can't help it!

Very nicely done. Hopefully my wife feels I fall into the Best friend category. As she is my best friend. Interesting look at how women view the different types of men. Voted up and very interesting.

Thanks Cogerson! I'm glad you have your best friend already! Really, this list is half-way unrealistic--based on some real characteristics and patterns of men and relationships. And I'm a chronic list maker so it's fun! There's most likely to be a part 2 so stay tuned!

Great and interesting idea. I must say that I've experienced multiple types of men, but all were still... men. lol

To be serious, though, you are spot on. I can't wait to read the 2nd part. =]

I saw in a comment above that you just created this from a simple conversation. I find that that is the best writing - raw and full of passion. I have a feeling that you'll do great here on HP. Welcome!

You should know types of women even better. Turn about is fair play, or isn't it?

Hm, so real... I have to say that I've been involved with all this tipes and all of them are special and to remember with a smile :D but you haven't mention the best tipe - The Realistic and Strong men who stands allways behind you and has eyes only for you :)! I found it, and this is the far best tipe of men!

My favorite is the shy guy. Never cared for the bad boy.

YasmeenAli Hub Author 3 months ago

Oh, there is a part two, and I am definitely going to include some of the suggestions I've read. Shy guy will make the list for sure.

YasmeenAli profile image

YasmeenAli Hub Author 3 months ago

Mskejci,

That's true. But I always felt that the best friend would fall into the realistic category. Either way, that's totally a valid point.

Perspycacious,

Yeah, I suppose it is fair play. We'll see if I can cough up a list, even though giving a females point of view on men is a bit more fun. Giving a list of types of women makes me feel like a "Mean Girl." But thanks for reading! :-)

VeronicaFarkas,

Thanks so much! Me and my friends have never-ending conversations about men...partly because we are so admittedly young and naive.

I'm working on part 2. I just have to add a few more types to the list and I'm ready, set, go. :-)

I dated my best friend and lets say things ended up pretty bad. If I could back in time, it would have just stayed as friends instead of a romantic relationship.

YasmeenAli profile image

YasmeenAli Hub Author 3 months ago

Aw, I'm sorry JosieLee! This list was just for fun. But that's unfortunate that happened to you. Sometimes things dont' happen the way we want them to. Thanks for reading my hub. Hope things are better for you! :-)
